Dr Nigel G Harris is managing director of The Railway Consultancy, a specialist railway planning consultancy. His reputation was originally based on technical advances in network modelling and fares policy research. However, he also has expertise in operational simulation, demand forecasting, scheme appraisal and railway business planning, which gives him one of the best understandings in the country of railway business performance. He has co-authored a number of our publications, is a visiting lecturer at the Universities of Newcastle, Birmingham and Sydney, and has presented railway principles and research around the world, to a wide variety of groups including front-line railway staff and academic conferences.
